Ultrasound Treatments and Evaluations

Ultrasound imaging, also called ultrasound scanning or sonography, involves exposing part of the body to high-frequency sound waves to produce pictures of the inside of the body. Ultrasound exams do not use ionizing radiation (as used in x-rays). Because ultrasound images are captured in real-time, they can show the structure and movement of the body's internal organs, as well as blood flowing through blood vessels.

Leg Ulceration Treatment

Venous ulcers are leg wounds that can be superficial (top layers of the skin) or deep in nature. Venous ulcers are caused by chronic venous insufficiency (venous reflux disease) that occurs due to damaged vein valves that allow blood to pool in the legs. People who have venous ulcers may or may not have varicose veins. Depending upon the patient's anatomy and the severity of the wound, venous ulcers may be treated with compression stockings or ClosureFast procedure.

Compression stockings have helped patients find relief from certain symptoms of venous diseases such as varicose veins and spider veins. They are commonly used before other more expensive and, in some cases, more invasive treatments and may be used following these procedures as well. Compression stockings work to promote healthy blood flow and healing following many venous treatments.
